Frequently Asked Questions
OMG it says youre from Australia!?Yes, that would be because I
am from Australia..
Where else can I find you on the interwebs?TWITTER: Best place to find out what Im up to as well as get the opportunity to peer pressure me into drawing something you wanna see is my
TWITTER account. Also I'm more likely to reply quickly to questions on there than on here.
FACEBOOK: I do have Facebook but I rarely add people I dont know IRL anymore. Also, Im not going to add you unless I know who you are, remember I only know your dA username, not youre real name!
MYSPACE:
I DO NOT AND NEVER HAVE HAD A MYSPACE if you see anyone pretending to be me on there, its NOT me. There was a girl pretending to be me on MySpace a while ago, and
selling my work, but once she got your money you never heard from her again and I got a whole lot of really angry emails!!
Why dont you reply to your comments anymore?!I'm just really busy, and I'm not being ungrateful or up myself or anything (quite the opposite) but I get alot of comments and favs a day and while I utterly appreciate them ALL I dont have the time to reply to 100+ comments a day. I read EVERYTHING and if you ask a question or your comment needs a reply for whatever reason then I will reply (eventually) if I dont reply consider yourself 'THANKYOU!!!'ed.
Where/How did you learn to draw? The simple and probably most annoying answer is, I taught myself. Im an only child so I had alot of time to myself as a kid. I once took a painting class when I was 13, but I knew everything they were teaching already (egotistical child much?) and I have a Bachelor in Fine Arts from The Victorian College of the Arts but the only thing I ever learnt there was the Contemporary Art World is full of close-minded arseholes.
Can you give me some tips on drawing?Uuuuhhh probably not, Im terrible at tip giving as I dont really *think* about what Im doing much. All I can say is pay attention to the world around you, sketch ALL THE TIME, learn how things move and how light works/reacts with different things. TAKE LIFE DRAWING CLASSES theyre fun AND you need to learn what a body REALLY looks like before you manipulate it to do what you want in your head/on paper.
One tip I can think of though is, if you're having trouble with a particular post or fabric-fall or something, take a photo of yourself in an similar outfit or pose and copy it. Its not cheating and it helps you learn.
Can you make us a tutorial?I have tried to do this SO many times, and I always forget to document after a while. The other things is I dont really think through what Im doing as a step by step process really. One day I might try to make a video when I talk through what Im doing as I do it... or possibly set up a live stream video when Im working in photoshop one day that everyone can watch live. Dunno. Suggestions?
What mediums to you use and what paper?PAINT: If it looks like watercolour, more often than not its actually watered-down acrylic! I love using acrylic because that way I can layer my paint without accidentally removing the lower layers.
PENCIL/GRAPHITE: For my pencil sketches I use a 2B 0.5 mechanical pencil. I use it for all shading no matter how light or dark it is. Im really just too lazy to change pencils.
MARKERS: I have a mixture of Copic Markers, Pantone Tria Markers (my fav but I havent seen them round for a while) and Touch Markers.
DIGITAL: I use my touchpad mouse (because I SUCK at WACOM tablets) and Photoshop CS2 (regardless of how awesome everyone says CS3 and CS4 are because I am le poor.)
PAPER: Most of the time I use Bristol Paper, its ridiculously smooth and thick! It doesnt work well for paint but I cant afford watercolour paper most of the time.
Can you draw me/my character/my family/anything?I dont have the time or the money for requests these days sadly, sorry! I do do commissions though!
Can I Commission you?YES INDEED YOU CAN! You can view the price list
HERE If you have ANY questions at all please note me! I dont bite!
Can I buy the original or a print of a particular artwork? If youre after the original do note me and ask, but alot of the time Id rather to sell you a print. I get prints done by someone locally, that way I can make sure that the quality is high and the colours are correct. I havent got my print prices worked out yet so if you want one let me know and Ill get that sorted.
Can I use your photos as a stock image?'Nope sorry! At the moment NONE of the photos in my gallery are for stock!! If it is stock it will say STOCK in the title and the artists comment. If you want to use something for art practise that fine but if you're going to post it on dA please let me know and credit/link back to me.
Can I use your artwork for my forum avatar/forum signature/LJ layout/OC in a RPG etc?Mostly no. If it involves removing the watermark or cropping the image then its definitely a no because thats how work gets stolen. Im more than happy to discuss this further if you want to explain exactly where you want to use it and for what, please note me, as I said before, I dont bite.
I run a website and would like to show others your work on it, is that ok?Yes (and thankyou!!) but PLEASE link back to me or the image on my deviantART account. Also, PLEEEEASE let me know youve put it up as I like to link to your site under the image so you get some exposure too and not to mention it makes me happy to see people liking my work so much and I wont know its there unless you tell me!
If your question hasnt been answered or you want me to elaborate on something please note me or email me, Id be more than happy to answer any questions!
